Will my 401k plan distributions affect my Social Security benefits?

Hi Sven,

Distributions from your 401(k) plan will NOT affect the amount of your Social Security benefit. However, your 401(k) distributions MAY affect how much of your Social Security benefit is taxable. For that reason, we recommend that you evaluate the timing of your various income sources, especially Social Security and retirement plan distributions, such that you maximize your total after-tax income; or get help with that planning from a qualified advisor.
