I had work in Men's Wearhouse back in 1999-2000. How can I find out if my 401k is still exist ? If exist, how can I find out and where do I have to contact for details ?
Did you keep the 401k open? If you took the money out when you left Men's Wearhouse, then you don't have a 401k anymore. If you kept the money in the 401k, then you should contact Men's Wearhouse ( http://www.menswearhouse.com/support ) Human Resources (HR) department via their 800 number in Houston. Start with the Store Customer Relations division to transfer you to HR. Explain you were an employee and are trying to trace your old 401k. HR may be able to tell you if you have one. Or, they may be able to tell you who the custodian/administration firm is that administers your 401k. You would then contact that custodial firm (look for their phone number on their website) to see if they still have the 401k for you. HR might be able to give you tips on tracking it down too.
If it has been that long, and you neglected to keep your address updated with the 401k firm, it is likely your 401k escheated to the State you worked in (http://blog.betterfinancialeducation.com/uncategorized/personal-finance-state-wants-to-connect-unclaimed-goods-with-their-rightful-owners-personal-finance-claudia-buck-the-sacramento-bee/ ). The blog talks about inheritances - but the links within it are helpful to you to see if any States have it filed as unclaimed property.
Wishing you the best as you track your old 401k down.
Hi there thanks for reaching out. You need to contact the human resources department of your former employer or the investment provider of the 401(k) plan. Do you still receive statements or know how to contacts these entities?
