If I were to purchased a 55+ home as a secondary home, would the first time home Buyer Credit apply?

The property is located in Florida. I am 58y/o.

I don't understand, if it is a second home, how would you be a first time homebuyer?

Edwin,

Some states, like Maine, have first time homebuyer grants (Maine's gives $3,500). You may want to look into whether or not Florida has such a program. Even though you own a house, if you spouse does not appear on the deed or it has been 5-years since either of you has last owned a house you may still be eligible.

Hope this helps.
