Waitress/taxes coming up?

Hi, I work as a waitress so most of my income is through commissions. My husband makes most of the money though... Should I just go through something like turbo-tax or actually hire someone? Is it complicated to do it myself? Any help would be great. Thanks!

While Turbo Tax may be more cost effective, I think using a professional would be much a wiser idea. The questions that Turbo Tax may ask you may be two-sided and/or ambiguous in the response required. You only save 50 to 100 bucks by using the program and you spend your valuable time on something you don't know much about. While the threat of an IRS audit is VERY low, the one time you are questioned will end up costing you much more time and money than what you saved by using the software.

Thats my two cents...

First of all I apologize for all the people that stiff you on not tipping. My son's girlfriend was a waitress and I know how hard you work. I have done my own taxes for years using turb tax. It is not as hard as one might think. Just make yourself a cup of coffee, take your time and make sure you read the questions carefully. It should take you through everything step by step. If you had investments or property that you sold or if you have income from a trust or work from home you might consider hiring a professional. But if you have the most basic exemptions and deductions I am sure you can do it. Also if you have income of less than $57,000 you may be able qaulify to do your taxes online for free.
