Hello my name is Bengie Vilmond and I am inquiring about my 401K that i have had in the past as an employee with the University of Rhode Island. I no longer work for URI, however I believe i have a 401K with the State and would like to combine my 401K in one account. Please help.
I would start by talking to the Human Resources department at the University of Rhode Island. They should be able to point you in the right direction.
Hi Bengie! I agree with Curt that HR is the best place to start. One thing you may want to ask is whether or not you have pension or 403(b) retirement benefits available to you. As a state supported school, they may have a different type of retirement plan other than a 401(k). I would hate for you to miss out on benefits just because they may call their retirement plan by a different name. Good luck to you!
If you have an old statement from the Plan, there is a Customer Service or Plan Representative phone number on it, call them.
It's probably not a 401(k) since it is through a public university, but it can be rolled into almost any other type of Qualified Plan you participate in now, or to an IRA.
