    I am a Verizon employee with roughly 150k in our 401k and contribute about 10% annually. I'm concerned about market instability for the next several months and am seriously considering going ultra conservative in my investments. Do you think this is a good/bad idea and do you have any other advice?
    You do not state your age with your question. If you are younger than 49, that will give you at least 10 years of market ups and downs before you can use this money without penalty.     Re: my 401: in te mid 90's before Roth IRA's were around I contributed the max into aftertax savings - I am not sure how much I put in over those years but it's now worth about $160K and is mixed in with the regular funds -- can this be turned into a Roth with no tax's or how would I handle it.     First off if you only contributed aftertax dollars into the IRA, you can find out your basis on form 8606. You would have to go back and look at each year to see how much you contributed.
